Niki Labbé, professor of biomass chemistry in the School of Natural Resources, took over as Director of the UTIA Center for Renewable Carbon (CRC) on June 18. Labbé served as Assistant Director of the CRC for the past two and half years.
“I am excited about this new role and honored by the trust UTIA leadership has placed in me,” Labbé said. “I will give my best to this position and serve with integrity and transparency. I believe in the strength of collaboration, so I extend my deepest gratitude to the CRC faculty, staff, researchers, and students who work diligently to further our mission. I look forward to continuing the collaboration and accomplish our shared goals.”
UT AgResearch Dean Hongwei Xin announced her promotion and called Labbé a “tireless servant leader” and an accomplished faculty member with dedication to growing the CRC’s projects.
“Dr. Labbé will actively contribute to the Center’s current program and identify new opportunities for future growth,” Xin said. He added her responsibilities will include ensuring the efficient and effective operation of the Center while accommodating the needs of its faculty. She will also lead the implementation of the new strategic action plan and mentor junior faculty.
Labbé takes over for Tim Rials, associate dean for UT AgResearch. Labbé said, “Dr. Rials has achieved remarkable milestones, and I am committed to upholding and building upon his legacy.”
Labbé also became an Excel in All We Do Honoree as part of the 2024 President’s Awards during the annual UT Board of Trustees meeting on June 25. Labbé and other recipients will be honored during a luncheon in August.
