Tennessee to regulate lab-grown meat through new legislation

Lawmakers passed a bill this year to establish a permit process through the Tennessee Department of Agriculture to sell “alternative protein” in the state. Neal Schrick, professor and head of the Department of Animal Science, provided his input on the topic of lab-grown meat.

Researchers with UTIA studying the effects of the vast amount of water and sediment left on agricultural land in the wake of Hurricane Helene flooding have won a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to continue their work and share their findings with farmers impacted by the widespread agricultural damage.
