Enjoy Festive and Educational Programs Across West Tennessee
JACKSON, Tenn. – The holidays have arrived, and University of Tennessee-Tennessee State University (UT-TSU) Extension is hosting an exciting lineup of fun and educational programs across West Tennessee led by local family and consumer sciences Extension agents.
Attendees will be able to shop holiday items at events such as the annual Family and Community Education (FCE) Christmas Cottage, as well as attend informational classes on canning, crafting, holiday budgeting, seasonal gift making and more. A few of this year’s programs include:
- FCE Christmas Cottage (Madison County) – November 22, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and November 23, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Madison County Ag Complex Auditorium – Free to attend, no registration required
- Kids in the Kitchen Cooking Class (Decatur County) – November 25, 10 a.m., Decatur County Extension Office – Free to youth nine and older only, preregistration required
- Hand Knit Chunky Blanket Workshop (Perry County) – November 25, 1 p.m. or 5 p.m., Perry County Extension Office – $20 per person, preregistration required
- Hand Knit Chunky Blanket Workshop (Decatur County) – November 26, 9 a.m., 1 p.m. or 5 p.m., Decatur County Extension Office – $20 per person, preregistration required
- Thrifty Holiday Hacks Class (Obion County) – December 3, 10 a.m., Obion County Public Library – $10 per person, preregistration required
- Hand Knit Chunky Blanket Workshop (Perry County)– December 3, 5 p.m., Perry County Extension Office – $20 per person, preregistration required
- Wooden Nativity Painting Class (Decatur County) – December 5, 5 p.m., Decatur County Extension Office – $50 per person, preregistration required
- Gifts in a Jar Class (Haywood County) – December 5, 5:30 p.m., Elma Ross Public Library – $25 per person, preregistration required
- Christmas Jam Canning Class (Henry County) – December 5, 6 p.m., Henry County Extension Office – $25 per person, preregistration required
- Gifts in a Jar (Dickson County) – December 14, 10:30 a.m., Dickson County Government Building – $20 per person, preregistration required
- Kids Christmas Cookie Decorating Class (Decatur County) – December 17, 3:30 p.m., Decatur County Extension Office – Free to youth nine and older only, preregistration required
- Gifts in a Jar Class (Perry County) – December 17, 5 p.m., Perry County Extension Office – $15 per person, preregistration required
- Gifts in a Jar Class (Fayette County) – December 17, 5:30 p.m., Fayette County Extension Office – $15 per person, preregistration required
“UT-TSU Extension hosts programs throughout the year, and our holiday events are always highly popular,” says Lynn Brookins, Western Region program leader for family and consumer sciences. “We try to keep them free or low-cost to ensure everyone can enjoy a little festive cheer this season.”
