KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The annual Fabulous Fall Plant Sale at UT Gardens, Knoxville, will be held on Saturday, October 10, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
There will be an opening preview sale for UT Gardens members, Gardens volunteers and UT employees on Friday, October 9, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Non-members are welcome to enjoy the benefits of membership immediately by joining at the preview sale.
Shop from a unique selection of beautiful, resilient plants expertly selected for our region. From sun-loving perennial flowers to dry shade evergreens and daffodil bulbs presented by the East TN Daffodil Society, there will be something for every garden niche.
Visit the Knox County Master Gardener tent to learn about this year’s featured plants chosen for their beauty, form and ecological function.
- The flowering plant for spring is Canadian anemone, which is well suited as a living mulch for moist gardens with established communities of hardy shrubs and trees or large herbaceous perennial flowers and grasses. This native plant spreads quickly, which can be a benefit with proper planning and management.
- After these spring flowers have faded, foraging pollinators will enjoy the pale blue or white blooms of Lesser catmint, also known by its scientific name Calamintha. With an impressively long bloom window from June to October, loosely mounded growth habit and a fresh menthol scent, Calamintha is a must have for the sunny mixed border or rock garden.
- In late summer and early fall, hummingbirds and butterflies will appreciate the true red blooms of Jacob Cline beebalm, a Southeastern native selection renowned for its vigorous five-foot-tall stems and bold, beautiful flowers.
- The final featured plant is a tough late season bloomer known as Eastern Star white wood aster that will light up the shade garden with its nectar-rich, charmingly fringed flowers in fall when many other plants have stopped flowering for the year.
