Plant Pathologist Selected as a UTAA Distinguished Service Professor

The University of Tennessee Alumni Association Recognizes a Herbert College of Agriculture Professor

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Bonnie Ownley, an esteemed professor in the University of Tennessee Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology, has been named as a recipient of the 2024 Distinguished Service Professors award presented by the University of Tennessee Alumni Association. This honor is awarded to professors who exemplify the university’s values that include teaching with passion, a commitment to public service and dedication to their students.

Ownley has been a part of the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology within the Herbert College of Agriculture since 1992. Her primary focus in research has allowed her to teach about soilborne plant pathogens and etiology of diseases in vegetable and biofuel crops.

As a graduate professor she is passionately teaching students courses in bacterial plant diseases, soilborne plant pathogens and mycology.
