UT AgResearch Now to Host “Fall Celebration” in October

JACKSON, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture’s Summer Celebration Lawn and Garden Show has been postponed until October 1, 2020. The annual gardening event, which takes place at the West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center in Jackson, was previously scheduled for July 9, 2020, but will be delayed due to health and safety concerns for employees and visitors.

Fall Celebration, as it will be called in 2020, coincides with the annual Fall Plant Sale, held at the West Tennessee AgResearch Center on the first Thursday of October. In addition to the plant sale, Fall Celebration will feature indoor garden talks, tours of the gardens and AgResearch Center and cooking demonstrations from the UT Kitchen Divas.

Due to limited personnel available in October, outdoor garden talks, exhibitor booths and the Plant and Pest Diagnostic Clinic will not be included on the program.

“Fall Celebration will be different from the Summer Celebration program to which our regular visitors have grown accustomed,” says Bob Hayes, director of the West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center. “However, considering the circumstances, we think this is the best alternative to provide horticultural education while keeping safety a top priority.”

Summer Celebration was first held in 1989. The one-day event typically draws around 2,000 gardening enthusiasts to Jackson.

Event organizers are still developing plans for Fall Celebration, and more information about times and program agenda will be shared at a later date. Those interested are encouraged to visit the West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center website or the UT Gardens, Jackson Facebook page for updates.

Through its land-grant mission of research, teaching and extension, the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture touches lives and provides Real. Life. Solutions. utia.tennessee.edu.
