Current NIFA Director Expected to Change Roles July 1
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – University of Tennessee System President Randy Boyd and UT Knoxville Chancellor Donde Plowman announced today that Carrie Castille, current director of USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture, will be recommended to the UT Board of Trustees to serve as the next senior vice chancellor and senior vice president for the UT Institute of Agriculture. The SVC/SVP leads the the statewide UT Institute of Agriculture, which includes the Herbert College of Agriculture, the College of Veterinary Medicine, UT AgResearch and its 10 research and education centers, as well as UT Extension with offices in 95 counties, three regional offices and four 4-H centers.
Castille, a native of Louisiana, holds a Ph.D. in renewable natural resources (with emphasis on environmental and public policy) from Louisiana State University, an M.S. degree in environmental studies from Louisiana State University, and a B.S. degree in industrial engineering from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
Pending an affirmative vote of the board, Castille’s appointment will begin July 1, and she is expected to begin her service with a series of visits with UTIA faculty, staff and stakeholders across the state.
