East Tennessee’s Christy King recognized with Center Director’s Award for Support Service

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – University of Tennessee AgResearch has presented the 2021 Director’s Award for Support Service to Christy King of the East Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center in Knoxville. King has served the AgResearch and Education Center as an accounting specialist for 23 years and has become a dependable asset to the University’s mission.

King joined the East Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center in 1997, coming from the banking industry. As accounting specialist, she is responsible for a large volume of accounting related tasks including paperwork, invoices, budget ledgers and special projects. She also works closely with vendors, contractors, farm managers and other colleagues at the center.

Research center director Bobby Simpson nominated King for the award. He wrote in part, “Christy’s work attendance is exemplary. Her work ethic is exceptional. Her accounting skills are sharp, and I can always depend on her numbers to be accurate.”

Among the research associates, King is known as an excellent problem solver. Research associate Cody Fust supported King’s nomination for the award. He wrote in part, “She could be helping us deal with buying feed one day, renting equipment the next or installing a new water heater another day, all while doing it as efficiently and cost-effectively as possible.”

Fust continues, “I also believe Christy has the patience of a saint. She keeps track of all the paperwork we create and sends us friendly reminders to keep us all on the right track. She doesn’t hesitate to help us when we need it.”

AgResearch and Education Center Director Bobby Simpson continued, “Christy is a highly-valued and critical team member at the East Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center, and I believe she is very deserving of this award.”

Through its land-grant mission of research, teaching and extension, the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture touches lives and provides Real. Life. Solutions. utia.tennessee.edu.
