Producers to Gather at McMinn County Expo Center April 24
ATHENS, Tenn. — Amid concerns regarding the outbreak of COVID-19, this event has been cancelled.
Beef producers should mark their calendars for the Southeast Tennessee Beef Summit. Scheduled for April 24 at the McMinn County Expo Center in Athens this event is free to attend, but pre-registration is required by April 17.
Experts from the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture will be leading sessions on a variety of topics like beef production, cattle handling, cattle health and feeding structures. Beef and forage research updates and updates on new technology and equipment for the industry will also be discussed.
The summit will be held on April 24 at the McMinn County Expo Center inside Athens Regional Park.
Registered participants can check in starting at 8 a.m. EDT with 35-minute educational sessions scheduled from 8:40 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The sessions will be conducted by speakers from UTIA and Ag Central Co-op. The summit will also host the largest beef trade show in southeast Tennessee. After the morning sessions, keynote speaker Dean Fish, a cattle rancher from Arizona, will discuss and demonstrate cattle handling techniques promoting good stockmanship and stewardship.
Fish’s talk will be followed by a catered lunch featuring Texas-style brisket and all the fixin’s. The event will conclude at 1:45 p.m.
Other topics covered at the summit include vaccination/deworming chute side, utilization of fence line feeders, low stress cattle handling, and updates from the UT East Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center.
