UT Institute of Agriculture Hosts Beef Heifer Development School

​Lewisburg Event Scheduled for October 18

LEWISBURG, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture will host a Beef Heifer Development School on Friday, October 18, 2019, at the UT AgResearch and Education Center at Lewisburg.

The one-day school will include five presentations on heifer development strategies that improve reproductive performance and increase profitability. Topics include causes and prevention of abortive diseases, early pregnancy in beef heifers, an overview of fence line feeders and how reproductive failures influence long-term profitability.

The program also includes an update on the Tennessee Beef Heifer Development Center. Established in 2015, the facility was specifically built to research intensive management practices in heifer development and to educate producers on ways to improve the replacement heifer process.

This free event kicks off at 9 a.m. and concludes at 4:30 p.m. Lunch is provided. Attendees are asked to pre-register by October 14 by contacting Matthew Webb at the Marshall County Extension Ofice at 931-359-1929.

The Tennessee Beef Heifer Development Center is a partnership between the UT Institute of Agriculture, the Tennessee Department of Agriculture and Tennessee Farmers Co-op.
