Meeting for Producers, Industry in Jackson
JACKSON, Tenn. – Cotton producers and agricultural industry professionals can learn about the latest cotton research at the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture’s annual Cotton Focus on Thursday, February 13.
The event will be held at the West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center, located at 605 Airways Boulevard, Jackson, Tennessee. Registration begins at 8 a.m. There is no cost to attend.
University of Tennessee Extension specialists will cover hot topics in pest control including bollworm resistance, control of grass weed species, and identification and management of cotton leafroll dwarf virus, a disease that was just officially confirmed in Tennessee in 2019.
A 2020 economic outlook will be provided by Aaron Smith and Andrew Muhammad from the UT Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics. Muhammad currently holds the Blasingame Chair of Excellence in Agricultural Policy at the UT Institute of Agriculture.
Information will also be presented on the U.S. Cotton Trust Protocol, a National Cotton Council program designed to increase awareness of the sustainability of U.S. cotton production, along with associated marketing opportunities.
Pesticide re-certification and CCA points will be available. Lunch will be provided.
