Four Herbert College of Agriculture Students Earn Scholarships for Participation in the Tennessee 4-H Next Chapter Program

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – With the re-launch of the Tennessee 4-H Next Chapter program, four students studying at the University of Tennessee Herbert College of Agriculture received the annual Next Chapter Scholarship of $1,500 for their hard work in the program’s development and testing. Each scholarship is renewable for up to four years.

A partnership between Tennessee 4-H and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Next Chapter prepares high school students for life after graduation through interactive lessons, hands-on projects and career exploration. Upon completion, students gain the skills and confidence to pursue college, technical training, or join the workforce.

In addition to the Next Chapter Scholarship, the Herbert College of Agriculture awarded each student a $500 scholarship for their achievement and dedication to their future success.

Each of the Next Chapter Scholarship recipients is a first-year student in their chosen field of study. For 2025 the recipients are:

  • Gabe Harville, wildlife and fisheries science
  • Katie Lipford, agricultural leadership, education, and communications
  • Isaac Welch, food science
  • Logan West, agricultural leadership, education, and communications

Members of UT Knoxville’s Division of Enrollment Management, including Vice Provost Kari Alldredge, along with the rest of the Next Chapter implementation team, visited the students during class on Monday, November 3, to surprise them with their scholarships.

“The redevelopment and implementation of this program would not have been possible without the input of these students, and it was so special to be able to surprise and recognize them,” says Cassie Johnson, Herbert’s director of enrollment services and member of the Next Chapter implementation team. “Their work will impact communities all across the state of Tennessee as Next Chapter expands.”
