Third annual UT Bred Heifer Sale is scheduled for next day
LEWISBURG, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture will host a field day featuring the Tennessee Beef Heifer Development School on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at the UT Middle Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center at Lewisburg.
The one-day event will include the opportunity to tour the program, evaluate heifers and gain practical insight into forage, economics and reproductive management. This year’s program will feature presentations from experts with UT AgResearch and UT Extension including Renata Oaks, a professor in the Department of Plant Sciences; David Bilderback, Extension specialist with the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics; Kevin Thompson, director of the Middle Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center; Charley Martinez, assistant professor in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics; and Saulo Zoca, assistant professor in the Department of Animal Science.
Zane Troxtel, Ag Range Specialist for Greenpoint AG, will be the luncheon speaker. Lunch will be provided thanks to the generous sponsorship of Green Point Ag and United Farmers Co-op.
The event is from 8:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. CDT and the cost to attend is $15 per person. On the following day, Friday, May 22, the Third Annual UT Bred Heifer Sale will take place beginning at 1 p.m. CDT. Approximately 95 fall-calving heifers will be for sale, and all are Tennessee Ag Enhancement Program (TAEP) eligible. Sale videos will be available in May online at UT Beef Heifer Development Program website, and sale cattle will be available for live viewing from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. during the May 21 field day.
