Free Event Will Share Cotton Production Strategies
JACKSON, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture is hosting their annual Cotton Tour Field Day at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, September 11 at the West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center, located at 605 Airways Boulevard in Jackson, Tennessee.
This free event will feature field presentations and guided tours of the on-site research plots to provide attendees with essential information on cotton production in Tennessee. Topics will include ThryvOn cotton, variety testing, cover crops, irrigation, nutrient management, disease treatment, weed and insect control and more. Wagons will be available to transport participants to each tour location.
Tyson Raper, cotton and small grains Extension specialist, says this is one of the most important events in the region for cotton producers. “There are a multitude of factors that can impact yield, especially this growing season where we have experienced both high rainfall and recent drought. We want to share research and strategies that local farmers can effectively apply to their own year-round production practices.”
Attendees will be able to receive Certified Crop Adviser and pesticide recertification points, in addition to a complimentary lunch held at the end of the tour.
