Paid Opportunity Provides Career-Focused Experience
JACKSON, Tenn. – Undergraduate students interested in science and agriculture are encouraged to apply for paid summer internships at the West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center, part of the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture.
For 8 to 12 weeks beginning in May, participants will gain insight into the research and Extension efforts that benefit agriculture while paired with experts in agronomy, entomology, plant pathology, weed science, crop physiology and soil science and fertility. Interns will spend time both in an area of their choice and rotate to each research discipline to attain career-focused experience and a holistic understanding of the field.
Amanda Blazek, graduate research assistant in the UT Herbert College of Agriculture, says the internship program influenced her decision to study plant pathology. “As soon as I looked through a microscope, I knew what I wanted to do. This is a great way to see all that agriculture has to offer while under the mentorship of some of the best academic faculty in the country.”
