
Explore Cotton Production Tools, Trials and Techniques
JACKSON, Tenn. – Learn the latest cotton production strategies during the annual Cotton Tour on September 10 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Hosted by the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture (UTIA), the event will take place at the West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center, located at 605 Airways Boulevard in Jackson, Tennessee.
This free, in-person field day is open to farmers, consultants, agribusiness professionals and others involved in Tennessee’s cotton industry. Attendees will take part in guided wagon tours of active field trials, where UTIA researchers and Extension specialists will present findings and recommendations on:
- Variety testing and performance
- Defoliation timing
- Cover crop practices
- Irrigation and nutrient management
- Disease identification and treatment
- Weed and insect control
- And more
Tyson Raper, cotton and small grains Extension specialist, says 2025 marks yet another challenging year for farmers. “Cotton growers are constantly navigating a mix of agronomic, environmental and economic challenges. This event is designed to share practical, research-based solutions to improve production efficiency and maximize yield.”
Attendees will receive pesticide recertification and Certified Crop Adviser points for attending, in addition to a complimentary lunch at the conclusion of the tour. The complete program will be posted on utcrops.com.
