Tennessee Beef Heifer Development Program Field Day Scheduled for October 20

Beef Producers Encouraged to Attend

LEWISBURG, Tenn. –The University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture will host the Tennessee Beef Heifer Development Program Field Day on October 20, 2023, at the UT AgResearch and Education Center at Lewisburg in conjunction with the Tennessee Beef Heifer Development Program.

The one-day event will include presentations from UT AgResearch and UT Extension experts on heifer development strategies that improve reproductive health and performance. Topics include the following:

  • Setting up Your Heifers Good Future: Heath and Vaccination Management
  • Using Genetic Tools to Breed and Select High Quality Replacement Heifers
  • Nutritional Requirements of a Developing Heifer on Pasture
  • Reproductive Efficiency of Beef Heifers: Aiming for Cow Longevity

“This year’s event will offer informative presentations related to the beef industry’s most critical stage of production – all things related to proper selection, development and management of beef heifers, says Kevin Thompson, director of the Middle Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center. “In addition to the formal presentations, we will be hosting a wide variety of agricultural industry and educational displays and a special lunch presentation discussing aspects related to the harvest portion of our beef industry.”
