Theme: The Power of Plants
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – After canceling in 2020, and going virtual in 2021, Summer Celebration is back and in-person for 2022. The event will be held Thursday, July 14, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center in Jackson, Tenn.
The theme for Summer Celebration will be “The Power of Plants,” expanding on how gardening became a therapeutic hobby for many people during the pandemic, from vegetable gardens to house plants and everything in between.
“We noticed it early in 2020 when people reached out to nature to feel peace, they also reached out to us for advice on gardening,” said Jason Reeves, Extension Horticulturist at the UT Gardens, Jackson, “Whether you’ve been gardening for the last 20 years or the last two, we would love for you to attend this event.”
There will be more than 15 speakers at Summer Celebration, topics including water stewardship, tree care, edible landscapes and others. Extension Specialists and Agents will be available for plant diagnostics, and the UT Kitchen Divas will host cooking lessons indoors. In addition to these educational opportunities, local vendors will provide some great ideas for your landscape, and the UT Gardens, Jackson, will have plants for sale.
“This is one of our favorite events of the year,” said Scott Stewart, West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center Director, “We expect as many as two thousand people will come to enjoy our gardens and learn from the experts in UTIA AgResearch and Extension.”
Admission to Summer Celebration 2022 is $5 a person for those 18 years old and older. The West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center is located at 605 Airways Blvd, Jackson, TN. The UT Gardens, Jackson, is located on campus, and is open from dawn to dusk every day. For more information about Summer Celebration and other events at the center, visit westtn.tennessee.edu.
