Assistance Is Available for Individuals, Families, Producers and More

JACKSON, Tenn. – West and Middle Tennessee continue to experience severe weather and flooding concerns from this week’s ongoing storms. Many residents now face the difficult task of recovering from damage to homes, businesses, properties and more. The University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture (UTIA) has compiled a list of resources to assist those in need.

Please visit utextension.tennessee.edu/tornado-response-and-recovery-resources for the full list of links from UT Extension, the Centers for Disease Control, the National Child Traumatic Stress Network, Purdue University Extension, the United States Department of Agriculture and more. Topics include assistance for:

  • Home and property damage
  • Agricultural losses
  • Community recovery
  • Families and children
  • Safe cleanup
  • Mental health
  • Replacing documents and records
  • And more

You can also find flood recovery resources, previously put together after Hurricane Helene, online at utextension.tennessee.edu/flood-related-resources. While many of the sources listed are not germane to the most recent weather events, many may be of help for certain topics.

An often-overlooked impact of disasters is document loss. Tax information, birth certificates, marriage licenses, financial records and more are sometimes destroyed or missing. The sites above offer guidance for next steps, as well as filing insurance claims after a destructive event.

The National Weather Service confirmed an EF3 tornado touched down in McNairy County, in addition to widespread winds, hail, flooding and more throughout West and Middle Tennessee. UT Extension has offices in all 95 Tennessee counties, with agents, experts and specialists in agriculture, family and consumer sciences and 4-H youth development ready to assist.

We encourage you to contact your local county Extension office for additional recovery information and resources.

The University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture is comprised of the Herbert College of Agriculture, UT College of Veterinary Medicine, UT AgResearch, and UT Extension. Through its land-grant mission of teaching, research and outreach, the Institute touches lives and provides Real. Life. Solutions. to Tennesseans and beyond. utia.tennessee.edu
