Free Gardening Events Announced by UT Extension Western Region

Enjoy educational sessions, plant sales, garden tours and more

JACKSON, Tenn. – Spring has arrived, and gardeners across Tennessee are eager to begin this year’s planting. To help the community prepare for the upcoming growing season, University of Tennessee Extension Western Region is hosting another free lineup of horticultural events.

Participants can attend educational courses, shop locally grown plants, tour private gardens and more, all while networking with local experts and gardening enthusiasts. With programs available for hobbyists and commercial growers alike, this year’s events include:

  • Fayette Cares Plant Sale (Fayette County) – April 11, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Oakland Elementary School – Free to attend
  • Oakland Springfest (Fayette County) – April 11, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., West Junior High School – Free to attend
  • Lawn & Garden Expo (Tipton County) – April 18, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Brighton High School – Free to attend
  • Master Gardener Plant Sale (Lawrence County) – April 25, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., Lawrence County Extension Office – Free to attend
  • Master Gardener Plant Sale (Hardeman County) – April 25, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Hardeman County Extension Office – Free to attend
  • Spring Flower Show & Competition (Hardeman County) – April 29, 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., Hardeman County Extension Office – Free to attend; $4 entry fee per category
  • Spring Plant Sale (Madison County) – May 1, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center – Free to attend
  • Master Gardener Plant Sale (Dyer County) – May 2, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Dyer County Extension Office – Free to attend
  • Through Our Garden Gates – Tour the Personal Gardens of Local Master Gardeners (Shelby County) – June 6, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Various locations across Memphis – Free to attend

“Gardening is a hobby that’s accessible to all ages, skill levels and living spaces,” says Celeste Scott, horticulture Extension specialist with UT Extension Western Region. “Our team of Extension agents and Master Gardeners is eager to help you get started or take your existing displays to the next level with timely, seasonal advice. Plus, we’ll have hundreds of plant varieties for sale across West Tennessee that you can add to your collection!”
