Series Begins April 8
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. ― Dairy producers in the state and region are invited to spend their lunchtime learning more about their industry. University of Tennessee Extension has announced a weekly webinar series focused on the Tennessee Master Dairy Program. The webinars begin Wednesday, April 8.
The first session will be presented by UT Institute of Agriculture experts Shawn Hawkins and Elizabeth Eckelkamp, who will address the current crisis with milk processing and provide an update to the situation involving the need for local producers to “dump milk.”
Future sessions will address bio-security and other management issues.
Each weekly seminar is expected to last one hour. Participation in three hour-long sessions will equate to a single credit in the Master Dairy Module. The Tennessee Master Dairy Program is an educational program to provide a variety of information on animal housing, management, nutrition, reproduction, milk quality, health, handling, welfare, and other topics. Modules are continuously created to provide dairy producers and other interested parties with the most up-to-date information on the topic of interest. Modules are provided each year to provide dairy producers with easy access to continuing education.
Eckelkamp says there is no need to listen to the webinar from a computer. “Participants may join in from a cell phone and listen while they’re on the go.”
Each webinar will be held on Wednesday from noon-1 p.m. Eastern/11 a.m.-noon Central. The series will be hosted on Zoom, which is free to download. The first program will be linked at https://tennessee.zoom.us/j/724106717 or, if you prefer to call in, the number is 1-646-876-9923.
